Northeast Christian Academy provides a Special Needs Educational Learning Center that is designed, staffed and equipped to administer learning assistance to struggling learners and students that have been clinically diagnosed with specific learning disabilities. Some of the needs that we accommodate are students with Asperger’s, Dyslexia, high functioning Autism, Emotional Disabilities, some Behavioral Disorders, PDD-NOS, ADD, and ADHD. Most learning is conducted one on one with a trained teacher and a specialized curriculum. Each student is scheduled to attend the Special Needs Center for a set period of time each day. This time is normally an hour at a time and the student may attend more than one time each day but is scheduled according to his individual need. Each student is assessed and given instruction

according to his individual special educational learning need. A variety of resources and sensory materials are used in the instruction. We offer a researched based reading program that is highly successful and widely used in similar programs. After conducting assessments and diagnosis, the student’s primary method of traditional classroom instruction is also evaluated and modified as necessary or as much as possible. Prior to placing any student in the Special Needs Center, the parents are required to meet with the Principal and the Learning Center Advisor. This is to ensure that the Special Needs Center is capable of assisting and meeting the individual student’s specific and special learning needs. If the student is concurrently receiving physical therapy or speech therapy we can also coordinate our efforts with these other programs to ensure maximum success. Every student that requests assistance is considered on a case by case basis and there is no guarantee of success; but experience has demonstrated that in most cases students do make improvements in those specific learning areas. The Special Needs Center instruction does incur an additional cost and most students enrolled in the program are current Northeast Christian Academy students; however, students that are not currently attending Northeast Christian Academy may apply for enrollment only in the Special Needs Educational Learning Center. Due to the individualized nature of these programs, space is very limited. Please call the school office at 915-755-1155 for more information or to schedule an appointment or a tour of the facility.
